You are no longer my son”, my father said, tears welling up in his eyes. He squeezed me tight and said, “You are my beautiful daughter”.
My heart dropped and I began to stand back up, slipping the diamond studded ring back into my pocket.
“…I was going to propose to you today, idiot!”
My 5yo nephew is very smart. He beat me in chess today and says he wants to be the world champion. I really think he has it in him, after all, he beat a grandmaster.
I slid the folder across the table towards my son, tears in my eyes, after telling him he was adopted and he could meet his real dad. He pushed the file aside and held my hand saying he already met him the day he was adopted.
I had to punish him for the third day in a row for acting out in the classroom. We were washing beakers in the laboratory after school hours when I asked in a concerned tone,
“Is everything alright at home, Ayush?”
“Yeah. I heard you lost your son, so I thought you would like some company cleaning up.”
